NIGHT OWL

HAOLEDI

For a post dinner group activity, singing through the night like the locals do is a good option. Haoledi is a clean and popular chain around the city that is affordably priced and has a wide selection of English songs. A variety of packages are available to cater to different group sizes and length of time.

MOKKOS

A Japanese bar on an unassuming street specializing in shochu, a Japanese spirit distilled from ingredients like sweet potatoes and barley. Its friendly staff, chill vibe and interestingly, reggae blasting on the speakers make it one of the Shanghai’s best hidden gems. Order the particularly addictive grapefruit shochu cocktail.

SENATOR SALOON

Senator Saloon is a beautiful Prohibition-era speakeasy bar that specializes in bourbon whiskey cocktails. The interior channels 1920s America, with extremely dim lighting, blood red drapes, discreet booths and waiters in bowties and suspenders. Cocktails are mostly classics with some creative concoctions, but all impressively mixed and strong.

SALUTE

Salute is a casual Italian wine spot that serves up a simple menu of cold cuts, salads and paninis to go with a bottle of wine or two. The shaded courtyard oozes character, the atmosphere is convivial and relaxing, and the food and wine excellent for the price.

YONGKANG LU

Yong Kang is a small but popular stretch of cafes, restaurants and bars in the former French Concession area; known particularly for nightlife, al fresco seating on the sidewalk and local residents still living in the units upstairs. During weekend nights, the crowd is often raucous but it’s all in good fun. You’ll find anything from Japanese, Mexican, French, fish and chips restaurants; cocktail bars, sports bars to specialty beer shops.
